A phobia is an intense, unrealistic fear of an object, an event, or a feeling. A phobia is an unreasonable sort of fear that can cause avoidance and panic. Phobias are a relatively common type of anxiety disorder. Phobias can be treated with cognitive behavioral therapy using exposure and fear reduction techniques. In many cases, anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication proves helpful, especially during the early stages of therapy. A person can develop a phobia of anything–elevators, clocks, mushrooms, closed spaces, open spaces. Exposure to these trigger the rapid breathing, pounding heartbeat, and sweaty palms of panic.
Ailurophobia - Is a type of specific phobia. An abnormal and persistent fear of cats. People who suffer from ailurophobia may fear physical contact, such as bites and scratches, and may also fear the perceived supernatural nature of cats. Ailurophobia is an intense fear of something that poses no actual danger. While adults with Ailurophobia realize that these fears are irrational, they often find that facing, or even thinking about facing, the feared situation brings on a panic attack or severe anxiety.
Alektorophobia – Is defined as the fear of chickens. Those who are victims of fear of chickens are afraid of every detail physical part of the chicken, like its feathers, eggs, or any other contaminated body part. So, every time the chicken in your neighborhood roosts, your panic starts and you feel suffocated where you seek any possibility of confronting chickens.
Apiphobia - Apiphobia is the irrational fear of bees or being stung by bees and it is related to the phobia called spheksophobia, the fear of wasps. This fear may develop in many ways, and it is called irrational because honeybees seldom sting except in last defense. When a honeybee stings it dies, and therefore, these bees will usually not sting, though they can naturally be curious and fly around people, and if extremely threatened, they may resort to this final attack.
Bufonophobia – Fear of toads is precisely known as Bufonophobia. This phobia is very common in children, but nowadays quite visible in adults too. When the phobia grips your mind you feel a surge of anxiety and tension paralyzing your thoughts and ideas. There is no particular age that might get attacked by Bufonophobia, but the onset is most common in early childhood.
Ichthyophobia – Ichthyophobia is a variety of a specific phobia which is an intense and persistent fear of fish. Fear of fish may refer to various cultural phenomena, such as fear of eating fish, or fear of dead fish, as well as to a specific phobia. Galeophobia is a subtype of ichthyophobia specifically focused on one species: sharks.
Mottephobia - Is an abnormal and persistent fear of moths. Mottephobics mainly fear the terrified look of the insects, which looks disgusting and repellant. Ornithophobia – Ornithophobia, or fear of birds, can take many forms. Some people fear only birds of prey, such as vultures, while others are afraid of even household pets like parakeets. If you suffer from ornithophobia, you might fear that you will be attacked by a bird or you may simply be uncomfortable around them.
Ostraconophobia - Is fear of shellfish. Ostraconophobia is usually caused by an intense negative experience from your past. But your mind can also create that fear seemingly without basis you know your ostraconophobia is illogical. But it has persisted because your subconscious has attached the idea of shellfish to all those negative emotions.
Pediculophobia - Is fear of lice. Pediculophobia is the fear of infestation, and it can drive a person mad – even insane. Any time my scalp Pediculophobia is usually caused by an intense negative experience from your past. But your mind can also create that fear seemingly without basis you know your pediculophobia is illogical. But it has persisted because your subconscious has attached the idea of lice to all those negative emotions.
Scoleciphobia – Is an intense, irrational fear of worms. The scoleciphobic person may also generalize this fear to include anything that looks like a worm. This might include caterpillars, maggots, grubs, tapeworms, etc. One might logically assume that the individual coping with Scoleciphobia may fear being infested or contaminated. These individuals may refuse to go outdoors after rain or completely avoid gardening.
Suriphobia – Suriphobia (also know as musophobia) is a fear of mice or other small rodents, from the French “souris” meaning mouse and the Greek “phobia” meaning fear. It is a specific phobia, as opposed to social phobias or agoraphobia, and like all phobias, the fear must be intense, irrational and persistent to be considered a true clinical phobia. The following steps will help you treat this common phobia.
